Little Mr. Is Disgusted. But Little Ms. Is Inspired.

Yesterday at the pool Little Ms. Eris informed me that she wanted to get her belly-button pierced. She gave me a very mishievious look as she said it, as though she expected me to freak out and tell her it was gross and wrong.

But the freaking out was reserved for Little Mr. Eris when he saw the scar on my belly from the belly-button ring I got when I was 18. He said, "You did not have a belly-button ring!" I said, "Uh-huh. See." Then he turned to Numi and said, "How could you let her do that?!"

I never thought I had something in my past that would shock or embarrass my kids.... but there you go. In their eyes, I am a reformed sinner.

Lil Mr. will be disgusted with me then too.
For I too sinned at the age of 18.

Oh--And I guarantee he'll find it totally hot on someone else in a few years.
Perhaps he won't be so judgemental if Cassie gets hers done.

Oh my! I just hope Little Ms. doesn't try to do it herself! And Jake? That is priceless!

My daughter wanted her ears pierced so bad before she was 12, the age we set for that. So, once when she was bugging us about it, I offered to do it myself for her. I told her she needed to gather up a piece of ice, alcohol, a nail, a block of wood, & a hammer.

She declined my offer!

G: So that's what you call that area. Good for trivia.

I also grossed out a girl in my son's 6th grade class when I told her & her mother about my DIY piercing method a few years ago.

G: I offered it to my daughter, but never did it to myself.

I admit I got a little grossed out when I read where a woman admitted to having both of her "yum-yums" (her words for them) pierced so she could hear them click together when exercising. :|

To me, if it doesn't normally see daylight, it's not worth piercing.

Oh my is right! Some men & women do get "critical" things pierced, but the down side is that if a backing comes off, you basically have a pin jabbing a very sensitive area in their cases! Then, there's the infection danger, since bacteria loves warm, dark, & moist areas. That happened to a woman on "ER".

I can see why the Church is concerned about going crazy on piercings, but most of them do go away if you don't use them (though they can scar, right Eris?), unlike tattoos, which normally need a belt sander or laser to remove.
